About Popeyes in the Philippines
On June 12, 1972, in the New Orleans neighborhood of Arabi, Louisiana, Al Copeland opened a modest restaurant called “Chicken on the Run.” Unfortunately, the eatery closed its doors after just a short time.
Copeland relaunched the business four days later under the new moniker “Popeyes Mighty Good Chicken,” inspired by the film The French Connection.
The business became known as “Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken” in 1975. After that, Copeland began developing the business internationally.
A franchise location in the Philippines, unfortunately, shut down in 2007. It was in 2019 when Kuya J Group relaunched the first Popeyes franchise in the Philippines, in ArcoVia, Pasig. Popeyes now has over 40 restaurants in the Philippines.
