It’s no secret that Filipinos love their food. We’re big foodies who like both traditional and experimental cuisine. When eating out in the Philippines, the menus are quite similar from one establishment to the next. If we keep eating the same thing, we would ordinarily say “nakakasawa” in Tagalog, but maybe it’s because we’ve been going to the wrong restaurants. Let’s look over the Mesa menu.
Mesa provides a modernist take on Filipino classics without sacrificing the familiar flavors for which Filipino cuisine is renowned. Imagine if the already exquisite Filipino food was refined and made even more exquisite. Their distinctive flavor more than offsets the high cost of their products, but be warned: most of them are not meant to be shared. There’s no way you can resist trying every item on the menu.

Mesa Best Sellers
Crispchon
One of Mesa’s most popular items is its Crispchon. They’ll bring it to your table if you just want a quarter and cut it up for you right there. The crispchon is served in thin slices and accompanied by Pandan crepes. Take a crepe, layer on a few slices of your favorite crispchon, carefully sliced cucumber, spring onions, and cilantro, then drizzle on some of their special sauces for the finest possible eating experience.
Tofu Salad
If you’re ordering the Tofu Salad, don’t expect you’ll be getting greens and tomatoes. Instead, you’ll be getting a treat for the senses. Mesa’s Tofu Salad is soft bean curd with shrimp and a slice of century egg on top. It will be something new to your palate, especially when combined with the soy-based vinaigrette it’s laid in. Its simple flavors elevated it into a great experience.
Tinapa Roll
This tasty starter is made of flaked smoked fish with tomato onion and salted egg wrapped in lettuce — another must-order from Mesa. It’s the perfect twist to the classic medley of tinapa, salted egg, and sukang pinakurat. It’s a definite must-try to get your appetite going.
Kare-Kare
Mesa’s Kare-kare is one of the favorites when it comes to entrees, and that’s because they’re doing it right. The creamy sauce bears slight notes of toasted, smokey peanut. The meat is fork-tender and juicy, and the veggies are crispy and fresh. It pairs well with the steaming white rice and the bagoong on the side.

Suahe on the Rocks
Shrimp are cooked live before you by placing them on hot rocks at the tableside. It’s a meal that relies more on showmanship than precise cooking, as cooking the shrimp for too long will cause the shells to cling to the flesh.

About Mesa in the Philippines
Mesa’s original name was “La Mesa.” They served food prepared at the table, a concept based on the Japanese way but executed in a manner more typical of Filipino cuisine. The management came up with the concept of “Mesa,” in which meals are cooked and served to customers’ tables before being served since this service model was foreign to Filipino culture. As of this writing, Mesa has 51 locations around the nation, with the genesis of the brand being in Greenbelt 5.
Mesa Filipino Moderne Cuisine has been around in the Philippine restaurant scene for a while. It’s owned by Mr. Eric Dee, who also oversees the operations of other successful Philippine eateries, including Todd English, Tim Ho Wan, La Mesa Grill, and Chin’s Cafe (to name a few).
